Siiru a community in Wa West District of the upper west region is in critical need of school infrastructure for students to learn.

The community has been deprived of infrastructure for decades as the only community self help project of a three unit classroom block has been in a bad shape for some time, but policy makers including the Wa West District assembly has never responded to their needs.

The situation came to light when Hope Fm Community-Link reporter Omar Gariba paid a visit to the community to understand the situation first hand.

Residents who spoke to the Community-Link team said they are extremely sad over the level of neglect they are currently facing in relation to the school block. They have indicated that some teachers who are posted to the school sometimes refuse to come because of the lack of school block for the primary school. Which is hampering teaching and learning and as evidently presented in the pictures below.

Pupils and the few teachers left are forced to hold lessons under trees in the school, furniture has also been a major challenge for the school as some of the pupils are seen siting on makeshift structures for lessons and others are pairing as much as three per dual desk.

The women bemoaned the lack of borehole in the whole of the siiru community, as they have to travel to Kangba the nearest community that's over 2 kilometers away in order to get portable water for domestic use.

When our Community-Link reporter enquired further if the situation was reported to the Wa West District assembly, they said the Assembly member has been in the position for the past 12 years but has only visited or held meeting with community members twice over the whole 12 years period.

They entire community have therefore vowed not to participate in any upcoming election if their concerns over water and classroom block are not addressed immediately.

All efforts to speak to the Assembly man of the Siiru electoral area proved futile, but Hope 96.7fm are working hard to get the district chief executive honorable Vida Darotey to speak on the Siiru situation and others in the Wa West District.
