The Chiefs and People of Nanga a community in the Charekpong enclave in the Nadowli/Kaleo district of the Upper West region on Saturday 7th October held a durbar with Azumah Mining Resources, a mining company which has been prospecting for gold in the area for a while.
The visibly enraged chief Naa Seidu Inusah and his people also indicated that Azumah Mining Resources must immediately halt their activities in the area so as to open room for the management of the company and chiefs to have a dialogue on what benefits the community stands to gain. This Naa Inusah believe will create the opportunity for the people to benefit in relation to the performance of their corporate social responsibility towards the community.
Naa Seidu Inusah says they will take every legitimate step to ensure that the company does not exploit members of the community hence would even organize a demonstration to show their revulsion against the mining company if their demands for a round table discussion and dialogue does not yield anything.
Meanwhile, the company which was represented by some of their top managers in Australia noted that they were unaware about the concerns of the community members but will take immediate steps in addressing them. They have showed keen interest in ensuring that the grievances of the are immediately met in order to create a cordial working relationship between the two entities.
